The servers on Campus that provide automatic
updates to our servers, workstations and laptops
were upgraded today to be more secure and provide
critical updates for Microsoft Office as well as the
Windows operating system. We just learned about this
change a little over and hour ago.
You may notice
that you computer is currently downloading and/or
installing new updates on your computer. If you
havent noticed it yet, you may soon. This should
appear as a small yellow shield next to time in the
lower right hand corner of your screen in the system
tray.
Microsoft Office has not been part of the
automatic updates in the past, so there may be a
large number of office updates downloaded and
installed on your computer during the initial
switchover to this new server.
Since some of these
new updates may be rather large. I would suggest
leaving your computers on, but logged off or locked
overnight (depending on weather conditions in your
area) so that all the new updates are allowed to
download and install. Once these updates are
complete, you should plan on leaving your computers
on one night each week depending on weather
conditions to allow the updates to take place
overnight.
